About the little girl that has impacted so many people's lives, and given us a new appreciation for all of our loved ones.
About Molly
Molly Rowlee about Cancer is cruel. Molly was five years old when she lost her battle with anaplastic large cell Lymphoma. This non Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a very treatable form of cancer with a tremendously high success rate - yet our lil' Molly is not a success story. Molly was diagnosed with cancer in February 2009, and she initially responded well to her chemo treatments and her cancer was soon in remission. In June, the cancer returned and became very aggressive. A month later Molly was gone. Five months. Five short months. Life is cruel.

Molly's legacy will continue and there will be some good that will surface from Molly's death. Her battle with cancer sparked the love of a community and thousands of people have rallied behind Molly, as well as our family, throughout this entire ordeal. Molly has taught us many things throughout this journey. We understand too well how very precious life is and we have come to redefine the priorities in all of our lives. Suddenly, we are able to find more time to spend with our families. We hug each other more tightly, kiss each other more passionately, and we're focused on being better parents....better people. Molly's fight has also taught us the importance of helping others. We have been blessed with an incredible amount of support, from friends, family, and strangers alike, and it's clear to us now that Molly's legacy - the Molly Fund - will remain in place in order to help other families endure the financial strain while they are helping their child battle cancer.

Aloha. We are a family of surfers and the ocean is an important part of our life. We are fortunate to be a part of a wonderful surfing community here in NH and we have learned that this community stretches far beyond the borders of our beautiful seacoast region. We have received "aloha" from the far corners of the world, from surfers and families that we have never met, and we have all truly learned the meaning of "aloha." Aloha shall be Molly's legacy as well. Share the aloha, pass it on to others, and spread the love. Molly's death has taught us the importance of community. There is strength in numbers, and together we shall help keep Molly's beautiful spirit alive by helping other families focus on helping their child survive cancer without worrying about the financial strain because I'm here to tell you that cancer.....ain't cheap. We are here to help. Molly would have wanted to help.

Mahalo,

Buck

About this site
Molly Rowlee fist logoMolly Rowlee shaka logo
This site was originally built as a surprise / gift for the Rowlees, with a simple intent of fundraising to help them cover the significant medical bills headed their way. That's still the case, with a longer-term vision of establishing a foundation to help other families facing the financial distress that comes with battling cancer. We're learning as we go, and in the process of establishing a non-profit in honor of Molly. The site was also developed in a way to enable Buck and Meighan to contribute as much or as little as they like, understanding they're on a rollercoaster of emotions while getting on with life after the loss of their daughter.

There are two logos for Molly, as shown to the left. The top one was created while she was still fighting cancer, and everyone described Molly as a fighter. When that fight ended, it was more appropriate to move from the fist to the shaka, which more embraced Molly's personality, the surf lifestyle that her family lives, and because she always made that sign and would say "Cowabunga!"

There is a tremendous community that surrounds Molly and the Rowlees, with overlapping geographic regions of friends, as well as a tight surf community that has pulled together to support them. The intent for this site is for everyone to participate. We will support events by promoting them as much as possible, and are planning the process for making Molly items available to these events. The more people involved the better, whether it's leaving messages on the message boards or sending us photos to get posted on the site.

We've got a lot of potential to build this into an amazingly positive, supportive community for others battling cancer, and we're going to need your help to do that.
